Meghan's Baby Shower: Party People!

We had fun at Meghan's baby shower, talking, eating, watching Meghan open gifts, playing a few little games, and rejoicing in the new life Meghan was lovingly housing. We were glad so many friends and family were able to be there to celebrate with us!

Erik's mom, Grandma Nancy, cross-stitched this quilt for the baby!

Kristin's mom, Jeanne, sewed this nursery rhyme quilt for the baby!

Mama with the grandmothers!

Hostesses!

Sistahs!

The quilt Meghan started many, many years ago. She pieced it, then Jeanne finished it for her! Meghan was grateful!

Meghan's Baby Shower: Decorations

The decorations for this shower were 95% thanks to my mom. She spent a million years doing nursery rhyme themed scherenschnitte (the art of papercutting, literally German for "scissor cuts") that Kristin and I then glued to decorative cardstock and hung around Kristin's house using mini clothes pins.

Kristin sewed an adorable Mother Goose, which topped an adorable diaper cake, which sat in the center of a brown blanket "nest" on her kitchen table, which we called "Mother G's Nest of Gifts." Don't you love how "Mother G" can refer to Mother Goose or Meghan? Kristin is clever.

We decorated the mantle with Mother Goose nursery rhyme books, and framed some of the Hey Diddle Diddle scherenschnitte to hang above the the mantle.

We had a table of stuff for games. We had pink and blue envelopes for guests to guess girl or boy via their color choice, self-address them (so Meghan had pre-addressed thank you cards), and then we drew one later for a raffle. There was a nursery rhyme guessing game. There was a cotton ball estimation game, with a Baa, Baa Black Sheep theme. And, we also lined up the prizes on the table - Jack Be Nimble Candlesticks.

Meghan's Baby Shower: Food

The short story is that in November, my mom, my friend, Kristin, and I were all so excited for Baby G to come soon and for Meghan to become a mommy, that we threw an over-the-top nursery rhyme themed (since that was the theme for Baby G's nursery) baby shower for Meghan and Baby G.

The long story is over 50 pictures, so I'm breaking it up into a couple posts.

I'll start with the food. Oh, the food. So delicious. So good looking. So themed.

I think I'm going to drop out of medical school and become a party planner because I'm such a sucker for themed food with little signs. Because you need a sign to tell you a deviled egg is a deviled egg, right? No way you were figuring that one out on your own. I love the little signs. I spent forever making them. I gave them to Meghan at the end of her shower and told her to scrapbook with them because I didn't want them to get thrown away. I doubt they'll ever get scrapbooked. But, please, for the love of all that is good and holy, don't tell me when you throw them away, Meghan. Because I might shed a couple tears. I loved them that much.

Well, not really. But I do love them.

The sign on the door to the dining room. This was a shout-out to my Grandad Rick, who used to tell us stories about Little Miss Muffet's Buffet (pronounced Buff-it). I think he was looking down on the buffet laughing, and probably thinking that the food looked pretty delicious!

The spread.

There were three men in this tub of punch! If you look carefully up toward the top, there are three "Little People" men floating in the middle column of the punch dispenser.
