Oklahoma Christmas 2013

We spent the second half of our week off with my family back in Oklahoma. We had such a wonderful time celebrating with them! It was extra special that Mary-Claire was old enough to enjoy Christmas, too, this year and super cute to see the cousins in action together!

Christmas Eve with Aunt Sarah

Christmas Eve with Aunt Elizabeth... Julia's face cracks me up!

On Christmas, Julia was SO excited to start opening presents!

Her aunt gave her the cutest hairstyle.

Mary-Claire arrived, wearing the same outfit Julia wore on her first Christmas!

Be still my heart.

So much love.

Opening presents

We made Meghan a binder of her favorite recipes, printed, put in plastic sheet protectors, and organized by recipe type.

We made Erik a sign for his garden (close ups to follow).

Our little family.

The whole family!

Cousins in matching pajamas. Oh yes! These were from Grandmom Anne.

Julia dancing to Gangnam Style, thanks to Sarah's new Gangnam Style toothbrush.

Running out of steam on the matching pajamas.  I'd bought them these ones a long time ago. They also got some super cute gingerbread ones from Grandma Judy...

... but MC had had enough!

The silhouette I painted for my mom of Julia and Mary-Claire.

The sign we made for Erik's garden. My dad helped me by doing the wood cutting. Aaron and I did the drilling and screwing together, and I painted it.

December: Children's Museum

We took Julia to the Children's Museum in town on the day after Christmas. I had to go back to work the next day, so we were soaking in as much family time as we could.

The highlight was definitely the clear packing tape tunnels/slides that you can crawl through above the exhibits in the main exhibit hall. So much fun! And so amazing that tape can be that strong!

Brave Julia on a bed of nails!

I was stoked that the oldest house in the city is right outside the museum. These two humored me and got a pic with it ;-)

Julia's Third Birthday

We spent most of our time and energy planning Julia's birthday party, so her birthday itself was pretty low-key. Julia had a great day with my parents while we were at work. When Aaron and I got off work, we told her we would take her anywhere her heart desired for dinner. She was very excited to choose. She didn't have to think too long before deciding on CiCi's pizza. We had a fun dinner together!

(Side note to Aaron's college friends: I find this hilarious, don't you? Whenever it came up, Aaron was always scoffing about the poor quality of pizza at CiCi's and his very flesh and blood chooses it above all over restaurants for her birthday dinner!)

Mom... leave me alone... I'm trying to eat!

Afterward, we took her to the toy store to pick out a birthday present! We told her she could pick out whatever she wanted (within reason, of course) as a gift from her daddy and me. She was so excited and weighed all her options carefully. She saw so many different options that were so very enticing. I felt bad that amidst the party planning that we hadn't bought her a present ahead of time, but I actually really liked doing it this way and think we may make it a tradition. It was so much fun! She had the fun of opening gifts from other family members at her party, and the fun of spending time with mommy and daddy toy shopping on her birthday.

She finally settled on getting her very own camera! There were both pink and blue options, and as her favorite color had always been blue, we asked her if she wanted the blue one. She quickly pointed out the boy on the blue camera packaging and the girl on the pink camera packaging and passionately exclaimed that the blue camera was for boys and the pink camera was for girls. We assured her that she could have either one, but these sorts of things are pretty black-and-white for three-year-olds, so pink it was ;-)

Proud new photographer.
Julia wasted no time in starting to take blurry photos of us with our heads out of the frame ;-) Haha! I'll have to feature some of her photography on here sometime! Her camera also has video capabilities, a voice recorder, and some little mini games. She's really enjoyed it.

Love the two viewfinders for her eyes!

Such a big girl! This photo makes my heart hurt in a good way. I'm so proud.

Happy birthday, Julia! We love you so much!
Julia's birthdays always make me so nostalgic. I really can't believe how big she has gotten as each year passes. Sometimes I wish I could freeze time, but it's also such a blessing to see how she is growing and changing. We couldn't be prouder to be Julia's parents! She is the crown jewel of our marriage and she fills our lives with such joy and light. I am grateful every year for the special opportunity that her birthday gives us to reflect on the gift that is our beautiful daughter. We love you so much, Julia!

35 & 36

Julia, my Julia. I'm dusting this post off from the archives - just a little snapshot of the joy that was Julia at ages 35 and 36 months. Also, the last of door and chair photos - I think we were both more than over it... haha! ;-)

Do you see the craziness I had to deal with to get these photos every month?

Julia, our old soul, was thinking a lot about the distant future.

Julia: “I want to be a Papa when I grow up.”
Me: “You can’t be a Papa, but you can be a Gee Gee.”
Julia: “Yes, I want to be a Gee Gee. I dreamed about that last night in my bed.”

Julia: “When I grow up I want to be a pilot just like Papa.  But I do not want to be a Papa.”
Aaron: “No, you can’t be a papa. But you can be a Gee.”
Julia: “Yes, I want to be a Gee. I can have a granddaughter of my own?”
Aaron: “Yes, you can.”
Julia, “My granddaughter’s name is Becca. Remember I saw her on Sunday? Becca is not my friend, she is my granddaughter.” (Becca is a girl in middle school who goes to our church)

Julia, on the topic of house cleaning: “That’s what my not-happiness is.”

Julia, to Aunt Jessica over Thanksgiving break: “I don’t love you. I just pretend to love you.”
[Nice kid, huh? ;-) ]

While waiting for confession, Julia talked to a fifth grade girl from the parish
They were asking each other if they had aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, etc. and what their names were.
Then Julia asked the girl what her dolls were named (“Blueberry”). The girl asked her what her dolls were named.
Julia: “Bluebear (Not true) and GlowWorm.”
Girl: “Oh, what pretty names. Does GlowWorm glow?”
Julia: “No. GlowWorm doesn’t glow. But I have a new knife! It’s a big, big knife.”
Girl: “Wow. That’s neat.”
Julia: “And my big knife glows!”
(Thanks to Aaron for buying Julia a glow in the dark sword.)

After Julia wiped herself with the rest of a still pretty full toilet paper roll after pooping….
Me: “Julia! You used WAY too much toilet paper!”
Julia:  “I know! Isn’t it beautiful?!”

We love our Julia!
