I was on wards in April. Wards months are my hardest months, but it was nice to at least have a month with longer hours on a month that the days were getting longer, so I got to see the sun at the end of the day. Aaron was on OB, and of I remember correctly, this was the only month all year that Aaron had off all the weekends, which was pretty glorious for him. It also meant we had every Saturday off together, rather than every other Saturday, which was the case for a lot of intern year.
This month was full of spring fun. The weather was gorgeous and we had a lot of fun outdoors as a family. I think I was working 75+ hours per week this month, but it's amazing how, with the passage of time, the bad fades and the good lingers. I look back at these photos and remember April as a good month, even though I'm sure it was actually pretty difficult in a lot of ways. Time heals all wounds ;-)

| My little window sill herb garden from a kit I bought at the dollar store, and Julia's buckwheat Easter basket. We kept these two baskets alive for months! Longest I think I've ever kept anything green alive! |
| Aaron took Julia to a Kids Fest one Saturday. Here she is with Buddy, the library mascot. |
| Prepping baby's skin with chlorhexadine... haha! |
| I love how kids will wear anything on their heads or faces and they love it. Adults would be worried about what people think of them, but kids just enjoy without being self-conscious. So sweet. |
| Julia's art continued to progress! |
| We ate at a local wings restaurant one night with my fellow residents while the NCAA basketball championship was on. |
| That dot under the nose is the philtrum. Julia included it on all her pictures during this time period. I loved how she thought that was a body part worthy of including. |
| Julia's picture of Stephen with his beard. |
| Can a day get any more gorgeous? This was at the free family day at the local art museum. |
| One of my fellow residents and his family hosted a crawdad boil! We had such a great time and the food was amazing! |
| Julia with the other pint-sized party guests. |
| One of the dads dressed up as the Easter Bunny :-) |
| Julia enjoyed hunting for eggs with the daughters of one of my fellow residents. |
| Clothes shopping with mommy and daddy :-) |
| Julia was proud of how well her buckwheat grew that she planted in March! |
| We went to an Easter festival at a nearby church. We were a couple minutes late, so Julia missed the egg hunt for her age group. She was allowed to participate in the egg hunt for the next age group up, which was elementary aged school kids. Needless to say, she really struggled. She picked up three eggs while the older kids cleared the field in seconds flat. Some mom took pity on her and made her kids share a few more eggs with Julia! |
| There was still a lot of fun to be had, though, despite the lackluster egg hunt results ;-) Julia loved all the big inflatables. |
| Brave girl! (The pediatrician in me just looks at this photo and thinks, "Mmmm... salmonella.") |
| Julia found this particular inflatable, and kept climbing up, sliding
back down, and repeating... over and over and over again. Aaron and I
sat in the grass in front of it, just watching her enjoy the repetition.
Once, however, we didn't see her return to the front. My heart leapt
into my throat as we ran around to the back to see if we could find her there. She wasn't there. We frantically hunted for her among the multitude of people and inflatables... and finally found her leaving one inflatable 2 down from the one we'd been at, and rushing to climb up into the one 3 down from us! Fearless kid! We literally whipped out the story of the Finding of Child Jesus in the temple, which she was well familiar with, to scold her for running off! She had had us so worried! |

| At the end of April, I presented a poster at the residency wide Clinical Vignette Symposium. I worked with a pediatric NP on our poster. I ended up winning 2nd place in the symposium, which was quite an honor! I was really excited and really enjoyed getting to present my case to the judges and fellow participants! |
