October 2014

In October 2014, I was on wards and Aaron was on VA teaching service. It was my first month on wards as a senior resident and I really had a blast. I had awesome co-seniors, including one of my best friends, Jessee. My interns were hard working and had great attitudes. Even the students were awesome, inquisitive and team players. The hours were long and the days were crazy, but I really did have a great month working hard to take care of kids as well as teaching and mentoring the interns and students. Or course, it was still a really hard month on a personal level, since we were working such long hours. We did have some good times as a family, though. Below are some of the highlights!

This was basically a highlight of my life, not just my month. Audrey Assad is probably my favorite musical artist of all time... so many of her songs have touched my soul so profoundly and I'm so grateful for the role they have played in my walk with God. I had the opportunity to see her in concert at the diocesan high school youth retreat that was being held at Bro. Stephen's high school.  She led us all in worship and we had Eucharistic adoration in the middle of the concert. How cool is that?? Sarah and some of her Newman friends were there, too. Julia loved getting to be at a concert with parents, her Aunt Sarah and Uncle Stephen and she knew the songs from me playing them in my car all the time. Such a special night with my family!

Have I mentioned lately what an awesome dad Aaron is? Seriously the best.

Love the just-woke-up-eyes. Beautiful.

Museum fun on family art day with Uncle Stephen.

Double the pleasure, double the fun... ;-)

There was a jazz band playing and Julia began dancing with some other little museum patrons. Too cute!

My attending physician surprised me with a couple cakes at lunchtime on my birthday! So sweet!

We went out for Thai food for dinner on my birthday.

Aaron's parents visited in October and we went out for dinner. This cracks me up!

Dress up fun at Gee Terri's house!

Julia helped us recruit new residents, attending an event for prospective residents at a local bowling alley :-)

Our attending bought us ice cream when we won the challenge he posed to us one day... naming all the Disney Pixar movies in chronological order! I love Pediatrics :-)
Beautiful fall day at the playground.

Enjoying the Aristocats with some of her best little friends shortly before they moved away. Boy do we miss this family!

The night team decorated the work room door with little ghosts to represent each person on the team. Too funny!

We dressed up as Toy Story for Halloween! I love working at a Children's Hospital!

Jessee and I trying to be all emo... haha!

The second floor team!

Julia dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood again to trick or treat since the Tinkerbell costume I had made her didn't end up being warm enough. She had fun trick or treating in my parents' neighborhood and Aaron and I loved seeing how excited she was. She wore the Tinkerbell costume the next night to a Halloween costume with Aaron, who dressed up in the Peter Pan costume I'd made him. I intended to be Captain Hook, but ended up being scheduled for a 24 hour shift on November 1st so didn't get to join them. I was sad to miss out! (I will have to see if our friends have a pic of the epic Peter Pan/Tinkerbell duo because I think the only photo I had was from them and the text message long ago expired... and I forgot to download the photo before it did! :-( ).

To the victor go the spoils ;-)
