July
Julia: “What are you reading about?”
Me: “I’m reading about medicine. That’s the thing about
being a doctor – you never stop learning.”
Julia: “I don’t want to be a doctor!”
Me: “Sure, that’s fine. What do you want to be when you grow
up?”
Julia, whispering: “Kermit!”
Me: “The green frog on TV?”
Julia: “Yeah! Maybe sometime you can get me some Kermit
uniforms.”
Gee Terri: “Guess what? Sarah is coming to watch your swim lessons
today!”
Julia, lighting up: “I dreamed
that Sarah would come!!”
A fun memory of Julia at this age: Julia loved playing in the dark, especially with her little electric tea light candles. The Barbies always had to have the lights out because it was always night in the Barbie game. Julia slept in the guest room a few nights in July, which was where her mass kit was. In the dark room, she would play mass by the light of all the little electric candles that she set up everywhere. We found patens with felt hosts scattered about the room and we found her asleep with a stole in bed with her.
Julia: “I LOVE tomatoes! I eat them every day! I eat them on
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, AND Wednesday!!”
August
While saying goodbye to Elizabeth before she left for
Nebraska, Julia gave her kisses on her hands and told her that if she missed
her, she could put her hand on her lips and it would be a kiss from her. All
our eyes were misty... so sweet.
Julia was pretending to be the “duke” – a naked Barbie who
officiated the following Barbie wedding. To be the Duke, she used what sounded
like a bad British accent.
“Zoo, do you take Curly for your truthfully loved wife?”
“I do.”
“If any sickness or worsen happens?”
“I do.”
“Curly, do you take Zoo for your truthfully loved husband?”
“I do.”
“If any sickness or worsen happens?”
“I do.”
“You may kiss the bride.”
Relaying a conversation she had with a little boy in her
class:
“Hi, I’m Julia! What’s your name?”
“Hudson.”
“How old are you?”
“Three and a half.”
“I’m three and a
half!! We’re twins!”
September
Julia, at bedtime: “I need a snuggler.”
Aaron: “What about Gruffalo? Or Ernie?”
Julia: “No! I need a human
snuggler!”
After googling what movies were playing
Julia: “Oooh! The Boxtrolls!”
Me, unaware that she’d heard of that movie: “How did you
know about that movie?”
Julia: “I’m a smart lady!”
Julia, coming across her little silver and crystal bracelet:
“Oh! My teeth!”
Me: “Your teeth?”
Julia, putting it in her mouth, covering the front of her
top and bottom teeth: “Yeah, my teeth! They’re shiny teeth, like Becca’s.”
Me: “Oh! You think Becca was born with shiny teeth?”
Julia: “Yeah! Shiny teeth!”
(Becca is a middle-schooler with braces)
We went to try a new Indian restaurant called Cumin right
near our house one night for dinner.
Julia, sounding out the sign above the door:
“C-uh-mmm-i-n.  Cuhm-in. Come in! It says
come in! Come on - let’s go in! It says come in!”
She was so delighted!
She was so delighted!
